One of pop culture’s favorite blondes is making a comeback, but this time she’s not at “perfectly respectable” Harvard.
The official trailer for the highly anticipated prequel series “Elle” follows “Legally Blonde” main character Elle Woods in high school, where she navigates tricky friendships, forbidden romance, and some truly questionable fashion choices.
The trailer leans into ’90s nostalgia — pink pager and all — while giving us a taste of the drama ahead: Elle’s parents dropping the news they’re moving to Seattle, sending her into a very on-brand meltdown.
Created by Laura Kittrell, who previously worked on “Insecure” and “High School,” the series is co-showrun and executive produced by Kittrell and Caroline Dries. It promises a deeper look at what made Elle Woods the iconic character we still quote decades later.
The original Elle Woods, Reese Witherspoon, is on board as executive producer alongside Lauren Neustadter, Amanda Brown, and Marc Platt. Up-and-coming actress Lexi Minetree steps into the role of a young Elle.
Last year, Witherspoon took to TikTok to introduce Minetree as the “new Elle Woods.” The video racked up 1.9 million likes and more than 13.9 million views, with fans quickly declaring her a perfect fit. One commenter wrote that “Her scream confirmed you definitely made the right decision, she sounded JUST LIKE ELLE,” another user said “OMG HER REACTION IS SO ELLE WOODS.”
Also joining the cast are June Diane Raphael as Elle’s mother Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt, alongside Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker, and Amy Pietz.
The series was announced on May 14, 2024. “Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ’90s high school girl,” Witherspoon said in the announcement. The first season will have eight episodes, premiering on Prime Video July 1.
