FORT LAUDERDALE — Broward County Community Colleges reported Wednesday that it would alter its calendar so that the district’s planned early launch day on the past working day of faculty will be a whole day of instruction.
In a created statement, the district said the Broward school board permitted the move for June 8 to enable pupils to make up the time they shed when campuses ended up closed past thirty day period since of the historic rainfall that drenched the county.
“As the weather celebration transpired close to the finish of the faculty 12 months, the District was still left with constrained options to make up for the dropped educational time,” the assertion stated.
Broward public educational institutions cancelled courses and just about all college routines because of popular flooding that still left significant swaths of the county underwater during the April 12 storm.
Above 20 inches of rainfall was reported throughout Broward during the top of the storm, prompting officials to cancel courses, shut the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Worldwide Airport and damaging houses.
The significant rain resulted in destruction of at the very least $2 million to college campuses, officials stated at the tiem.
