Were they on a break? Lisa Kudrow drops a new “Friends” hot take on Ross and Rachel

Lisa Kudrow has a new, hot take on whether her on-screen “Friends” Ross and Rachel were really on a break.

On Monday’s episode of “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon couldn’t resist revisiting the NBC sitcom’s legendary debate with the star who played Phoebe. He asked whether Ross and Rachel, played by David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston, were actually “on a break” when Ross slept with someone else out of jealousy over Rachel’s coworker Mark.

“Yeah, I’m afraid now to bring it up,” Kudrow joked.

Fallon pressured her to share. “This is scandalous. Get ready for some scandal, some tea. What is your take? Were they on a break?” he asked.

“Well, no,” Kudrow said, triggering a loud reaction from the audience.

She continued, “It’s beyond that. It’s beyond break or not, he was a bad boyfriend,” she emphasized.

“Oh, you agree?” she asked the audience, clearly surprised by their enthusiasm.

“Someone finally said it,” Fallon chimed in. “He was a bad boyfriend.”

David Schwimmer talks about his first sitcom since “Friends,” spills on the unscripted “Friends” reunion and reveals his stance on if Rachel and Ross were truly on a break.

Kudrow, appearing to promote the final season of “The Comeback,” pointed out that during the “Friends” reunion special a few years earlier, the cast mostly stuck to the idea that Ross and Rachel were on a break.

Then she added with sarcasm, “Rachel, that hysterical shrew. You know, not letting him sleep with someone and won’t get back with him.”

She didn’t stop there: “She shouldn’t have gotten back with him, because he was horrible.”

“To me, I don’t care if he slept with three other women or no other women,” Kudrow said, before pointing back to the situation that sparked Ross’ actions. “You had a crisis at work, so you weren’t available for a few nights, and he flipped out and you’re like, ‘Wow.'”

Fallon responded, “Yes! I love this!”

“Friends,” the NBC sitcom that ran from 1994 to 2004, remains one of the most popular and rewatched series in TV history. Its characters — and their relationship dramas — continue to spark debate decades after the final episode.
