Thomas Dolan, son of late HBO and Cablevision founder Charles Dolan, has been revealed as the buyer of a $27.1 million oceanfront Hillsboro Beach mansion.
Records show an LLC managed by Dolan and his trust bought the home at 1111 Hillsboro Mile from ex-Advanta CEO Dennis Alter. The Real Deal first reported the sale earlier this month.
Gerry Liguori with Premier Estate Properties had the listing, and Nicole Chambless with United Realty Group brought the buyer.
Thomas Dolan is one of six children of the late Charles and Helen Ann Dolan. Charles Dolan built his family’s estimated $5.5 billion fortune founding HBO and Cablevision, the latter of which he sold for $17.7 billion to European firm Altice in 2016, according to published reports. He also made acquisitions in the sports and entertainment space. Today, the Dolan family controls Radio City Music Hall, the Sphere in Las Vegas, AMC Networks, Madison Square Garden and its related entertainment entities. Thomas Dolan is the brother of the infamous owner of MSG and the New York Knicks, James Dolan. New York Magazine reported earlier this year he hand-selects celebrity attendants to fill courtside seats.
Charles Dolan died in December at the age of 98. He was remembered as a shrewd and ruthlessly competitive businessman in his New York Times obituary. “‘He’s like Darth Vader dressed up in a Howdy Doody outfit,’” one executive told the publication. Helen Ann Dolan died in 2023, according to public records.
Thomas Dolan, for his part, sits on the board of AMC Networks and serves as director of MSG Sports, Sphere Entertainment and MSG Entertainment, according to a bio on AMC’s website.
His Hillsboro Mile estate spans from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway with 147 feet of frontage on either side. It includes a 10,400-square-foot mansion built in 2009, with eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, a pool and a sport court, records and the listing show.
Alter listed it for $28 million in January, according to Zillow. The deal marks the latest pricey sale in Hillsboro Beach. In April, AutoNation CEO Mike Manley bought an oceanfront mansion for $14.5 million.
