Chris Pratt details 'beautiful chaos' at home with baby No. 4

Chris Pratt is an electric state when he’s at home.

After all, since he and wife Katherine Schwarzenegger welcomed their third baby together in November, the Guardians of the Galaxy star has been loving life as a dad to four: He and Schwarzenegger are parents to daughters Lyla, 4, and Eloise, 3, and son Ford, 9 months, while Pratt is also dad to son Jack, 12, whom he shares with his ex-wife Anna Faris.

“It’s beautiful chaos man,” Pratt told E! News of life at home at the New York City premiere of his series “The Terminal List: Dark Wolf,” which premiers on Amazon Prime August 27. “Absolutely hectic, and wonderful and I’m drinking up every moment I can when I’m able to be home. It’s been glorious, we feel very blessed.”

And despite being a huge TV and film star, the 46-year-old’s idea of a perfect summer day with his family is much more mundane than one might imagine.

“The girls are just now starting to swim in the pool with their goggles on, so I’m going down and teaching them how to dive down to the bottom of the pool and pick things up,” he explained. “It’s a pool party. We got music playing, we’re grilling, and we’re swimming and soaking up the sun.”

Over the years, Schwarzenegger and Pratt have been candid about how they’ve navigated their blended family, including how Schwarzenegger, 35, hired a step-parenting coach when she got engaged to the Marvel actor.

“I got that right when we got engaged,” Schwarzenegger — who tied the knot with Pratt in 2019 — said during a joint appearance on the Parenting & You With Dr. Shefali podcast July 15. “It’s been incredibly helpful for me and also just understanding my role as a step-parent.”

Among the lessons she’s learned are how to maintain health communication with Jack as well as how to think of herself in her role as stepmom.

“Step-parenting, like parenting, has no handbook,” she explained. “Because I have the benefit of being in both roles. Step-parenting is extra confusing because you aren’t a parent, you’re not a nanny, you’re not an assistant. You have responsibilities in all of those areas but you’re not either of them.”

Pratt, too, spoke to how important and also challenging the role of a stepparent can be.

“Children are children and they’re on their own paths,” he continued. “They’re probably having to continually process the fact that they are children of divorce. If a parent is in there doing the hard work of creating structure for a child and holding children accountable, and it’s not a biological child, it can feel thankless. But it’s a really, really important job.”

Thankfully, Schwarzenegger said she has the perfect model in her mother, Maria Shriver.

“I look to my mom for everything,” she shared. “I call her with everything, I talk to her about everything, whether it’s being a wife, being a mom and even being a stepmom, I talk to her about all those dynamics.”
