Antar Thiam is the son of Tidjane Thiam, who was CEO of Credit Suisse from 2015 till 2020, during which time he was the sole Black CEO in the upper echelons of banking. He was forced out of the role in early 2020, following a scandal dubbed “Spygate,” which involved a subordinate ordering surveillance on a former employee of the bank, the New York Times reported. Thiam asserted he had no knowledge of the matter, but was forced to resign under pressure from the bank’s board. Opponents of the move, including Harris Associates’ David Herro, claimed the ouster was racially motivated.

Earlier this year, he renounced his French citizenship in a bid for the Ivory Coast presidency. He was disqualified from the race amid a controversy over his eligibility.

The Thiam-linked entity bought the West 27th Street house on Sunset Islands II for $5.7 million in 2008, records show. It was built in 1939 on half an acre and has 100 feet of waterfront. The nearly 5,900-square-foot home has seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, one half-bathroom, a pool, a dock, a courtyard and a third-floor viewing tower.

It hit the market for $24.5 million in February, according to Zillow. Zarco, who declined to comment on the identity of his seller, said the buyer is an investor looking to renovate the home.

“There’s an opportunity for those kinds of buyers,” he said. “On the other side of it, buyers are willing to pay [top dollar].”

In other recent Sunset Islands deals, Oren Alexander, the disgraced broker facing federal sex trafficking charges, sold his waterfront mansion for $51.5 million in June. In April, waste management mogul Patrick Dovigi purchased a waterfront estate on Sunset Island III for $27.5 million.
