South Florida merger to create largest Realtors’ association

South Florida merger to create largest Realtors’ association

The Miami Association of Realtors is merging with the Broward, Palm Beaches & St. Lucie Realtors into the largest local such association in the National Association of Realtors’ history.

The two organizations expect the merger will close May 11, co-CEOs Teresa King Kinney and Dionna Hall said. King Kinney previously announced her plans to retire at the end of the year after more than three decades in a leadership role. Effective Jan. 1, 2027, Hall will be the sole CEO.

Each association has about 75 employees, and their assets include real estate, such as Miami Realtors’ headquarters at 1800 Oakwood Drive in Miami Springs. The new association, called Miami and South Florida Realtors, will have 93,000 members, Hall said.

The merger is another sign of increased consolidation in the residential industry, and a result of previous mergers.

In 2010, the Realtor Association of Greater Miami and the Beaches and the Realtor Association of Miami-Dade County combined to create the Miami Association of Realtors, becoming the largest local association at the time with 23,500 members. In 2017, the Realtors Association of the Palm Beaches merged with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Realtors.

“We are each the result of multiple mergers. Here we have the ultimate merger,” King Kinney said.

The two organizations have 14 locations, and the co-CEOs will evaluate whether to close some due to expiring or month-to-month leases and redundancies, King Kinney said. The combined association will streamline its rules and regulations into one set of guidelines.

The new association will also prioritize lobbying on issues like condo legislation and home ownership. It will continue to offer reports, data and other tools to members.

The merger comes at a time of increased scrutiny over the MLS, private listings and listings platforms like Zillow.

The mega association between Miami Realtors and Broward, Palm Beaches & St. Lucie Realtors (R World) will provide members with access to both Multiple Listing Services, covering Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.

Evian White De Leon, Miami Realtors’ COO and chief legal counsel, will have the same titles for the Miami and South Florida Realtors. Kim Hansen, RWorld’s COO, will be COO of BeachesMLS and chief of RWorld Division, according to a release.

The MLSes will initially operate as separate entities, eventually forming the third-largest MLS in the country.
