Riley Green is joining a milestone season of “The Voice.”
The country star will be a coach on the 30th season of the NBC competition show, he announced on Sunday.
“I guess y’all can start calling me coach… see ya this fall,” he wrote on Instagram.
Green’s post included him getting a call from Kelly Clarkson, one of his fellow judges for Season 30.
“Riley Green! This is Kelly Clarkson, that is officially the last time we’re going to use each other’s full names … but we have never officially met, so I’m super stoked to coach alongside you. Welcome to ‘The Voice!'” Clarkson said. “I was stoked when I heard you were going to be a coach because I’m actually a super-fan of your music, you’re so good. You probably know that because I’ve covered your songs.”
Clarkson has in fact covered several of Green’s songs on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” including “Worst Way” and “Don’t Mind If I Do.”
“Anyway, big fan! But needless to say, fan and all, it’s a competition,” Clarkson continued, adding that she sent Green “a little gift” to help get his “head in the game.” “Needless to say, I think you’re gonna need to practice because Team Kelly is gonna whoop that a–!”
That “little gift” turned out to be a red coach chair with his name, a cowboy hat and duck-calling whistles for “Duckman.”
“I could get used to this,” Green said as he hit the button and spun his chair around.
While Green is making his coach debut in Season 30, this isn’t his first spin on “The Voice.” He performed with Ella Langley at the Season 26 finale and returned for another performance at the Season 28 finale.
“The Voice” veteran Adam Levine will join Green and Clarkson among the Season 30 coaches, and NBC said a fourth coach will be announced soon.
Season 30 of “The Voice” will premiere in September on NBC.
