Detectives say that the mother found her son shot in the shoulder at the home and drove him to Jackson South. They believe the gunshot was self-inflicted.
Chopper 4 was at the hospital where the child was seen being airlifted by an MDFR helicopter from Jackson to Kendall Regional Hospital. Officials say the medical team decided that an inter-hospital transfer was the best course of action.
MDSO says the boy is in stable condition. Deputies said the mother could face charges if the gun that was inside of the home was found to not be properly secured.
