Resi roundup: Long-haul trucking, entertainment bosses buy South Florida homes



In the latest roundup of South Florida luxury residential deals, long-haul trucking and entertainment moguls bought homes.

Deals spanned Miami to Palm Beach Gardens, and ranged in price from $8.5 million to $12.7 million. 

Miami

In Miami, the founders of a long-haul trucking, transportation and logistics company bought a waterfront teardown in the gated Bay Point neighborhood for $12.5 million.

Records show RB Sabal Investments LLC, a Florida entity managed by Ramon and Bernardo Mijares, bought the house at 640 Sabal Palm Road from Morningside Estate Trust LLC, a Florida entity managed by Zachary Schiffman.

The Mijares founded Miami-based Bulk Environmental & Industrial in 1992. The firm provides collection and long-haul transportation services for waste and recyclables, its website shows. 

Schiffman is a private equity investor and the CEO of Zack Holdings. He bought the Sabal Palm Road home for $4.8 million in 2020, property records show. Built in 1942 on a half-acre, the house spans 7,800 square feet, with five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a pool, a dock and 100 feet of waterfront, according to records and the listing. 

Schiffman listed it for $21 million last year, Realtor.com shows.

Laura Graves of BrokerNation Real Estate had the listing. Randy Rose of Rose And Rose Realty and Gabriel Mijares of Charles Rutenberg Realty Fort brought the buyers.

Palm Beach Gardens 

In Palm Beach Gardens’ Old Palm Golf Club, insurance mogul Scott Carmilani bought a mansion for $12.7 million.

Records show Carmilani and his wife, Esther Carmilani, bought the house at 12215 Tillinghast Circle from Michael and Kimberly Narlinger.

Carmilani is executive chairman of Vault Insurance, a New York City-based firm that specializes in high net worth personal insurance. 

Michael Narlinger is founder and CEO of the Aliso Viejo, California-based ​family office, Brookline Investment Group, which invests in multifamily and commercial properties. The Narlingers bought the Old Palm mansion for $6 million in 2021, property records show. 

Built in 2010 on 1.1 acres, the 8,600-square-foot mansion has five bedrooms, six bathrooms and a pool, according to records. The renovated home also has a wine room, elevator, attached guest house and four-car garage, the listing shows. The couple listed it for $14.9 million last month, Realtor.com shows.

Dory Faxon and Geraldine Stanko of Compass had the listing, and Michael Costello of Compass brought the buyers. 

Also in Old Palm, entertainment executive and Ice Cube collaborator Jeff Kwatinetz bought a mansion for $8.5 million.

Records show Kwatinetz bought the house at 11724 Cardena Court from an LLC named for the address and managed by Malory Clifford. 

Kwatinetz is COO of Ice Cube’s film production company Cube Vision. He is also the founder of the Firm, a production company, music management firm and record label. 

The Clifford-managed entity bought the Cardena Court house for $4.5 million in 2012, according to property records. The 9,000-square-foot mansion has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and one half-bathroom, records show. It was built in 2008 on 0.8 acres. The property includes a pool, putting green and a four-car garage. 

The seller listed it for $14.5 million last year.

Edward Curran of Brown Harris Stevens had the listing, and Vince Marotta of Illustrated Properties brought the buyer.
