FORT LAUDERDALE – The Aged Dillard Museum has been the central issue of African American training and culture in Fort Laudedale because its design in the early 20th century.
Designed on land procured from Fort Lauderdale pioneers Frank and Ivy Stranahan, Previous Dillard was the city’s initially faculty for African-American students in 1907.
Lining the partitions of the museum are images from the city’s earlier.
“There are a whole lot of shots right here of old Ft. Lauderdale. Below we have the protest at the beach front, this is at Ft. Lauderdale Seaside,” reported museum local community liaison Emmanuel George pointing to the photograph. “This was spearheaded by Dr. Vaughn D Mizel and Youlah Johnson to halt the separation that is taking place at the seaside. They fought to desegregate the beach locations which they productively did.
That’s just a single of the a great number of stories of triumph more than adversity showcased in this treasure trove of South Florida Black record.
The Old Dillard Museum is a historical landmark and training heart operated by Broward County Public Educational facilities.
“Heading down the hallway it feels like a journey down memory lane. From time to time you speculate who had been some of the people today who walked through these hallways,” mentioned George.
It is named just after Dr. James Hardy Dillard, a distinguished philanthropist and educator.
Shown on the National Register of Historic Sites, the museum’s target is to encourage the heritage of the initial countrywide African-American landmark in Broward County.
