Finish of Hurricane Time celebrated in Keys with burning of flags


MIAMI – Conch Republic inhabitants doused hurricane flags with rum and set them on hearth Wednesday to mark the formal Nov. 30 stop of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane period. 

The 2022 season spawned 14 named storms, an normal year, in accordance to the Nationwide Hurricane Heart.

8 were hurricanes such as late September’s Ian, which brought tropical-storm-drive winds and some storm surge to parts of the Keys prior to producing landfall on southwest Florida’s mainland as one of two big hurricanes through the Atlantic year.

Wednesday’s party highlighted a blast blown on a conch shell, a image of the Keys, and speakers who remembered individuals impacted by the 2022 hurricanes and expressed gratitude the Keys ended up spared main impacts. 

The event was staged beside the U.S. Coastline Guard Cutter Ingham, a maritime museum docked at Key West’s Truman Waterfront. It attracted various hundred spectators who applauded as the flags burned to ash.
