Puppies, cats from SW Florida flown to shelters in northeast


FORT LAUDERDALE – About 100 cats and dogs from Florida are now at shelters in the northeast soon after an unexpected emergency rescue flight out of Fort Lauderdale.

Several of the animals had been in shelters in Southwest Florida, hit tough by Hurricane Ian.

“The energy went out. The employees could not get there. So they had hundreds of animals and only a handful of staff members,” stated Erin Robbins who performs with Larger Fantastic Charities and was on board the flight.

The dogs and cats had been from the Humane Modern society of Broward County, the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Collier County Domestic Animal Services, and the Gulf Coastline Humane Society.

A massive intention of the mission is to distinct up space in the shelters across Florida to make space for animals displaced by Hurricane Ian.

“They experienced to rush out and they were not ready to just take their animals. Probably they could not get dwelling to get their pets. So we are producing house,” said Robbins.

Volunteers worked by means of the night time to make guaranteed the animals were being completely ready and they had the right paperwork.

The volunteers say they are satisfied the animals are safe but it is really not just about them. It’s also about offering hope and support to the individuals of Southwest Florida.

“The people today that are here that you may see loading this aircraft, they had been not afflicted immediately by Ian. They are listed here and they labored all night time very last evening and they labored tirelessly during it all to enable those that were being impacted,” reported Robbins.

The animals have been taken in by St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Heart, the Liberty Humane Modern society, and the Pennsylvania SPCA.
