Empty passenger check in lanes are seen at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on September 2, 2019. – Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport closed at noon due to a mandatory closure order due to winds associated with Hurricane Dorian. Monster storm Dorian came to a near stand-still over the Bahamas, prolonging the agony as surging seawaters and hurricane winds made a shambles of low-lying island communities and spurred mass evacuations along the US east coast. It weakened slightly Monday to a still-devastating Category 4 storm, punishing Grand Bahama Island with “catastrophic winds and storm surge,” the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said in its 1500 GMT bulletin.
