TAMPA — The Florida Freeway Patrol is asking for the public’s support in locating a guy they say hijacked an ambulance in Hillsborough County early Friday morning.
Around 2 a.m., a supervisor with American Healthcare Rescue — a personal ambulance company — noticed a motor vehicle that appeared to be associated in a crash on the southbound Interstate 75 exit ramp to westbound Interstate 4. The supervisor decided to check the scene to see if any person was hurt.
Rolling down his window, he questioned if any person was alright when the driver of the crashed motor vehicle approached the ambulance and started “throwing himself” at the window and bought within, FHP mentioned. The moment inside, the suspect then fought with the driver and took over the ambulance. Fearing for his everyday living, the driver escaped and referred to as 911.
While seeking to travel absent with the ambulance, the suspect crashed into a Nissan Altima on the southbound I-75 ramp to westbound I-4 and fled the scene, prompting Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies to reply. Deputies then chased the ambulance until they lost them.
According to FHP, the ambulance’s in-car digital camera described that it crashed about 9 minutes afterwards and took a photo of the suspect within. The suspect then ditched the ambulance and fled from the scene.
FHP mentioned that the suspect appeared to be underneath the impact during the incident. Any individual with data about the incident or who recognizes the suspect is requested to simply call FHP at *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **Strategies (**8477).
