Ida Cohen leaves legacy of treatment with Miami Jewish Health and fitness


MIAMI — Her image is on the wall down the corridor from the reception desk at Miami Jewish Overall health, a 25-acre, lush oasis focused to the care of ageing Miami people of all faiths. 

The black and white photo is of Ida Cohen. 

Miami Historian Paul George can inform you all about Ida Cohen. “Her spouse is claimed to be the first Jewish settler in Florida, Miami, in 1896. 

That would be Isidor Cohen —  service provider, group chief. He was just one of the signers of the initial Miami City charter creating the authorities construction for “The Magic Metropolis.” 

George says, “She was just a ponder lady. She’d been married, widowed, married Isidor, had a happy relationship. And she was an activist.”

Ida Cohen’s big job, her life’s enthusiasm, was what is now known as Miami Jewish Health. 

She was the moving force guiding creating the establishment that has served the Miami region for in excess of 80 yrs. 

Jeffrey Freimark. president and CEO of Miami Jewish Overall health. describes Ida as “as a ferocious fundraiser and this facility grew to become very effectively known for dealing with bad frail aged folks and it truly is developed to the place we are currently.”

Isidore and Ida’s granddaughter. Geri Cohen. will notify you Ida was a “challenging cookie.” But her grandparents, “were being incredibly warm and beloved us.” 

To this day people check with, “are you Ida Cohen’s granddaughter? That makes me really happy.” 

Various generations of the Cohen family have been lively in help of public and private companies in South Florida.

When questioned what he would say if he could communicate to Ida Cohen Jeffrey Freimark mentioned,  “I would surely be absolutely sure to thank her for the  foresight that she introduced in having this location started out 84 yrs back.”
