TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Senate and House could be poised to choose up a proposed ban on drivers cruising in remaining lanes of highways.
The Senate Regulations Committee on Thursday approved the Senate variation of the invoice (SB 258), positioning it to go to the comprehensive Senate. The Home edition (HB 317) also has cleared committees and is all set for action by the entire Home.
The costs would apply to drivers on highways with at minimum two lanes in the exact same course and speed limits of 65 mph or greater. The expenses would prevent motorists from applying remaining lanes unless they are passing other motorists.
Senate sponsor Keith Perry, R-Gainesville, explained his purpose is to stop motorists from employing suitable lanes to move slower targeted visitors in still left lanes.
“In 2023 by itself, there ended up 4,027 violations as a immediate violation of passing on the appropriate,” Perry reported. The expenses would established fines up to $158.
