Paris immortalized late British music icon David Bowie by naming a street soon after him in the city’s southeast on what would have been his 77th birthday on Monday.
The inauguration of rue David-Bowie was to start with announced in 2020 by Jérôme Coumet, mayor of the 13th arrondissement. Bowie died of cancer in 2016.
The tribute celebrated Bowie’s very first Paris efficiency in 1965 — his initially outside the house the United Kingdom — and his lasting effects on music, style and culture. Bowie’s influence on new music, with hits like “Space Oddity” and “Let’s Dance,” and on style, are now forever identified in the Paris metropolis landscape.

The avenue is about between the Jardin des Plantes botanical gardens and the Nationwide Library. It is positioned between two modern day business properties, such as the headquarters of information publications Le Monde and L’Obs, opens onto avenue Pierre-Mendes-France and will hook up to a long run bridge linking the avenue to boulevard de l’Hopital, near Austerlitz educate station and Pitie-Salpetriere Clinic.
The improvement displays the ongoing transformation of the district, which now celebrates the legacy of Bowie alongside with other notable figures.
