FORT LAUDERDALE – A Southwest Airways flight from Fort Lauderdale to Austin, Texas returned to South Florida immediately after the aircraft struck a chook.
Southwest Flight 1416, which was scheduled to depart at 10:30 a.m., took off from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Worldwide at 11:18 a.m., according to the flight tracking web site FlightRadar24. It was scheduled to land in Austin at 1:14 p.m.
Broward Sheriff Fireplace Rescue mentioned that shortly just after 11:30 a.m. they had been informed of the bird strike. A non-crisis was declared and fire crews ended up sent to the airport.
The plane landed safely and securely just just before noon with fireplace crews on the tarmac as a precaution.
According to a statement from Southwest, “Our Pilots adopted experienced strategies and safely returned to Fort Lauderdale, where the plane taxied to a gate. To allow for more inspection, a individual aircraft will run the flight to AUS. We apologize to our Consumers for the inconvenience and we commend the swift, experienced actions of our Flight Crew in response to the celebration.”
The airline has not said where the hen struck or if there was any harm to the aircraft.
