MIAMI – A Hialeah male was observed responsible of two felony costs for his actions during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.
Federal officials say Gilbert Fonticoba, 49, disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and depend the electoral votes associated to the 2020 presidential election.
Fonticoba was convicted of obstruction of an official proceeding and civil ailment, equally felonies.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 11, 2024.
Officers say Fonticoba – a member of the “Vice Metropolis” chapter of the Very pleased Boys in Miami because 2019 – was amongst rioters in a mob that illegally entered the Capitol grounds and Capitol developing on Jan. 6, 2021.
“He aided wipe out a black metallic fence holding again the mob, and interfered with officers who ended up striving to prevent the crowd’s advance mainly because he needed to halt the certification of the Electoral School vote. Several of his actions were being documented on movie by fellow associates of the Very pleased Boys,” officials explained.
“On the morning of Jan. 6, 2021, Fonticoba achieved a team of roughly 100 customers of the Proud Boys near the Washington Monument at 10 a.m. As instructed, Fonticoba did not wear any Happy Boys colours, but underneath his black jacket, Fonticoba wore a distinctive t-shirt that examine ‘ENRIQUE TARRIO DID Nothing Improper!'”
Fonticoba was arrested by the FBI on Oct. 26, 2021, in Miami.
The felony obstruction cost carries a statutory maximum of 20 yrs in jail and possible economic penalties.
