MIAMI — When the Miami Marlins bested the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, Kim Ng turned the first woman general supervisor to direct a Big League Baseball staff into the playoffs.
And while the Marlins’ postseason was quick lived — ending Wednesday night after a decline to the Philadelphia Phillies — it marked a big milestone for Ng. In just a few seasons as the Marlins’ prime executive, Ng took what had been a person of the least expensive-ranked groups in its division to the postseason for only the fourth time in franchise heritage.
Ng was hired in late 2020 by then-Marlins CEO and section-proprietor Derek Jeter. It made her the first-at any time woman normal manager — not only in expert baseball, but in the four significant North American men’s sports — and the second person of Asian descent to become an MLB GM.
Her selecting followed 30 many years of experience in the MLB, such as with the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, two of the winningest teams in the league. Ng experienced also interviewed for other GM roles at minimum 5 times.
