TALLAHASSEE — Attorneys for the state are seeking to fend off an attempt to create a class-action lawsuit out of a challenge to new constraints on treatments for transgender people today.

The point out on Monday filed a 28-webpage court document urging U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle to reject certification of a course action in a lawsuit filed on behalf of transgender kids and adults.

The lawsuit worries a new law (SB 254), championed by Gov. Ron DeSantis, that banned doctors from offering treatment plans these kinds of as hormone therapy and puberty blockers to transgender children. 

The law also place restrictions on treatments for grown ups identified with gender dysphoria. 

A revised edition of the lawsuit, filed July 21, sought course certification. 

The lawsuit breaks down varieties of plaintiffs into 3 potential courses, depending on regardless of whether plaintiffs are kids or grown ups and certain other situations. 

In each individual course, it claimed “popular inquiries of regulation and truth exist” to guidance course certification. But in the doc filed Monday, attorneys for the condition argued that class certification is “fully inappropriate” in the case, in component since of what they reported are different things involving plaintiffs. 

“There are no frequent authorized or factual issues in any of the plaintiffs’ a few proposed courses that could conceivably counsel in favor of class-certification,” the document mentioned.
