FORT LAUDERDALE – An early morning fireplace erupted at the famed Swap Store in Lauderhill.
When firefighters arrived they observed rigorous flames and thick smoke coming from a few storage containers that ended up burning.
Lauderhill Deputy Hearth Chief Jeff Levy mentioned the fireplace broke out about 4 a.m. He explained firefighters experienced to lower open the steel containers to get to the fireplace. A canopy caught on fireplace whilst they were being battling the flames. They were being able to maintain it from spreading to other spots of the Swap Shop and extinguished it inside 15 minutes.
The containers are rented by distinct house owners who have booths there.
“As were en route, Lauderhill PD was relaying facts to us that they heard explosions which they imagined could possibly be fireworks and this kind of in the containers. We did find some boxes inside the container that are labeled ‘explosive’ which would guide us to believe that that there could be fireworks in there, but that will appear out in the course of the investigation,” stated Levy.
What sparked by fireplace is being investigated by the state’s Fireplace Marshal.
