FORT LAUDERDALE (AP) – A Southwest Airways flight to Florida from Cuba was forced to turn back Sunday after it struck birds that induced an motor to capture fireplace and fill the cabin with smoke, the airline said. No injuries have been documented.
Southwest Airways flight 2923 departed José Martí international Airport in Havana en route to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Intercontinental Airport on Sunday afternoon. The aircraft “professional chook strikes to an engine and the aircraft’s nose,” the airline claimed in a statement.
A passenger advised a local news station that the affect despatched fumes by means of the plane and triggered unexpected emergency oxygen masks to deploy.
“It was like a burn up odor, and it was hurting my experience. My eyes received true pink, my chest started out to burn up,” Steven Rodriguez explained.
The pilots securely returned to Havana, exactly where the 147 travellers and 6 crew members evacuated the aircraft on slides, the airline reported.
The airline bused passengers and crew members to the airport terminal and place the travellers on a distinct flight to Fort Lauderdale, the airline said.
