TALLAHASSEE – Following Gov. Ron DeSantis last year vetoed a invoice that would have overhauled Florida’s alimony legal guidelines, a Senate Republican wishes to tackle the challenge again throughout the 2023 legislative session.
Sen. Joe Gruters, R-Sarasota, filed a bill (SB 1416) on Thursday that seeks to make a series of adjustments in alimony laws.
For instance, it would connection what are recognized as “durational” alimony awards to the lengths of marriages.
Also, it would produce a course of action that could reduce or eliminate alimony awards when the persons paying alimony are prepared to retire.
Proposed alimony bills have extended been controversial.
DeSantis’ veto previous calendar year arrived just after former Gov. Rick Scott vetoed two alimony costs.
The 2023 session will start Tuesday.
