Nicole’s wind whipped waves destroyed Deerfield Seashore pier

FORT LAUDERDALE – After a stormy night time courtesy of Tropical Storm Nicole, people of Deerfield Beach savored a sunny, but windy, early morning.

The gusty winds churned up the waters off the beach overnight, resulting in substantial surf that destroyed the Deerfield Beach Intercontinental Fishing Pier.

Deerfield Beach Ocean Rescue said the railings at the finish of the pier were torn off by crashing waves which also harmed a lot of of the planks.

Engineers had been out early Thursday morning examining on the structural integrity of the pier.

Extra problems transpired on the south close of the beach. On a staircase down to the drinking water, just fixed a month or two in the past, all the stairs were washed absent.

Some individuals strolling the beach explained this was not the first time they’ve noticed anything like this, living so near to the water in Florida.

“It is remarkable. Actually, when (Superstorm) Sandy went by listed here, which was 300 miles out to sea, we missing 50 % this pier so it just displays you how strong the waves can be. But yeah, just to see what just a minor bit of a storm what it does. Its astounding. It is Mother Character, you know,” reported Ann Valliere.

No term on when the pier will be preset up.
