Colombian singer Karol G’s historic Coachella performance still has the internet buzzing, including that moment when an all-female mariachi group from Los Angeles joined her on stage.
The Grammy Award-winning and Latin Grammy Award-winning reggaeton superstar closed out the first weekend of the popular Indio music festival with a powerful performance Sunday night on Coachella’s main stage.
At one point in Karol G’s high-energy set, she was joined on stage by the all-female ensemble, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles.
The group posted a clip of the performance on their Instagram page on Monday with a caption in Spanish that read, in part: “Together, we are more. Long live women in music and mariachi music.”
Wearing matching blue mariachi suits, the group performed the mariachi song “Negrita de Mis Pesares.”
Karol G soon joined them to perform her song “Ese Hombre es Malo.” At that point, the singer was also wearing a matching blue mariachi blazer.
Considered trailblazers in the world of mariachi, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles was formed in Los Angeles in 1994. The group is billed as “America’s first all-female mariachi ensemble.”
“In a musical landscape where songs are often written by men, from male perspectives, Reyna has created its own history,” the group’s website notes.

On the mariachi ensemble’s Instagram post, fans commented on how proud they felt watching the moment unfold on the major global stage.
“Wow! Overwhelming to finally see Latina representation at Coachella!” one person wrote. “Que orgullo!”
“Absolutely beautiful,” another person wrote.
“You were incredible,” wrote another fan.
The memorable mariachi moment led by women was fitting for Karol G’s big Coachella achievement: With her Sunday night set, she became the first-ever Latina to headline the festival since it began in 1999.
Karol G’s record label, Bichota Records, posted a short clip of fans enjoying her Coachella performance on Instagram Tuesday, calling it a “powerful celebration of identity, culture, and community.”
“This wasn’t just a performance…it was a moment for all of us,” the label’s post read.
The video featured audio of Karol G addressing the cheering crowd in English: “I want to present myself. I am Carolina Giraldo from Medéllin, Colombia. And today, I am the first Latina woman to headline Coachella.”
“I’m very lucky and very proud,” Karol G continued. “This is not just about me, it’s about my Latina community, it’s about my people. And at the same time, this is for my Latinos struggling in this country lately. We stand for them. I stand for my Latina community, and at the same time, I’m very proud because this brings out the best of us. Unity. Resilience. A strong spirit.”
The singer said she hoped everyone watching felt welcomed into Latina culture.
“Don’t feel fear. Feel proud. Raise your flags,” she added, as fans waved flags from Latin American countries in the air.
Fans took to the recap post on Instagram to express their gratitude for the singer’s “masterpiece” performance.
Many said they were proud to see how far the artist had come.
