Lena Dunham shouted out longtime friend Taylor Swift at the end of her book

Lena Dunham is giving longtime friend Taylor Swift a heartfelt shoutout in her new memoir, revealing how the pop icon’s music helped her write the book.

On April 14, Dunham released a memoir titled “Famesick,” in which she reflects on her rise in Hollywood, the success of “Girls,” health struggles and what she hopes to accomplish next. The book ends with a list of acknowledgements where the 39-year-old actor, writer and director reflects on the meaningful people in her life who played a role in her memoir being published.

Among the names of Dunham’s close friends and family is Swift, who is sweetly referred to as “TayTay.”

Dunham wrote, “TayTay — you sing the songs I wrote this book to, the stories that pulled these stories out of me, the music that makes the whole world feel seen, and yet somehow, miraculously, you also pick up every desperate call at every desperate hour.”

“I love you so much and forever, for the reasons that everyone does and for reasons all my own,” she added.

TODAY.com has reached out to Dunham’s team for a comment and has not heard back at the time of publication.

The “Girls” creator and the Grammy winner have been friends for over a decade, and their friendship seemed to start with Dunham gushing about Swift’s music the same way she does in her latest book.

In August 2012, Dunham praised Swift’s songwriting skills on X.

“Judging by how much she’s helped me thus far, Taylor Swift is going to write the song that finally gets me comfortable with death,” she said at the time.

She later returned to the platform a couple months later to compliment Swift’s “Red” album. “Update: @taylorswift13’s album is triumphant. If she’d been here when I was in college I would have written papers on her, not Sylvia Plath,” Dunham tweeted.

The two were photographed together at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards in January 2014, and a year later Dunham was one of many squad members who joined Swift on stage during her “1989 World Tour.”

In September 2021, Swift stood by Dunham as one of her bridesmaids when the writer married musician Luis Felber. Vogue shared photos of the singer celebrating the nuptials on Instagram.

Dunham spoke highly of Swift in an interview with The New Yorker in July 2024.

She said, in part, that the singer is “everything that you would want her to be.”

“She’s kind, she’s devoted, she’s introspective, she’s emotional, she’s funny as f—,” she continued. Dunham also revealed in the interview that “Reputation” is her favorite Swift era.

More recently, Dunham attended a Kansas City Chiefs game with Swift in December 2025.

Dunham shared a series of photos from her day at Arrowhead Stadium cheering on the home team on Instagram and gave Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, a nod in the caption. “Love you @killatrav,” she wrote.
