Reunited and it feels so good!
Savannah Guthrie announced on “TODAY” April 9 that Hoda Kotb will be filling in for co-anchor Craig Melvin starting on April 13 while Craig is taking time off for spring break.
“Speaking of tomorrow, Craig you are heading off on a very well-deserved vacation, you’ve been holding it down here for a long time,” Savannah said on “TODAY.” “And Monday, we’re going to try a new host here. Her name is Hoda.”
“Oh, I’ve heard of her,” Craig joked.
“So that will be fun,” Savannah said.
Hoda and Savannah will reunite as co-anchors for the first time since Hoda’s final day on Jan. 10, 2025, after she announced she was stepping down. The two were co-anchors together for seven years before Hoda stepped back from “TODAY” while remaining part of the NBC family.
They became the first female duo in history to host “TODAY” when Hoda was named co-anchor in 2018. In celebrating five years together in 2023, they reflected on their chemistry together.
“Can I just say that the stuff that we show on TV is fun, but the stuff I love the most is the stuff that’s not on TV,” Hoda said. “I’m just thinking about our morning and there are so many (moments) just like that, that happen before the cameras all go on, and we really get to be us.”
Ahead of their upcoming reunion, Hoda had been filling in for Savannah as “TODAY” co-anchor for nearly two months while Savannah was with her family following her mother’s disappearance from her Arizona home on Feb. 1. A search for Nancy Guthrie, 84, and an investigation by local authorities and the FBI remains ongoing.
Savannah returned on April 6 to rejoin Craig in anchoring the show. She said in her first show back that “it is good to be home” and also drew a loud cheer from “TODAY” fans on Rockefeller Plaza.
She appeared in front of the crowd while holding hands with Jenna Bush Hager as they joined Craig, Sheinelle Jones, Al Roker and Carson Daly.
“You guys have been so beautiful,” she told the crowd. “I’ve received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family. We feel it. We feel your prayers, so thank you so much.”
