A former guitarist for Grammy-winning Baltimore band Turnstile is charged with attempted murder for allegedly intentionally hitting the singer’s father with a car.
Founding members of Turnstile Brady Ebert and Brendan Yates grew up about a block away from each other in the Burtonsville area of Montgomery County, Maryland.
“Emotions run high, because, you know, it’s a very emotional thing,” said John Simson, an entertainment lawyer, former manager, and program director of the music and entertainment major at American University.
Band personnel decisions can create strong feelings, he said.
“And when you get a rejection, it’s very personal,” Simson said.
A judge ordered Ebert held without bond until his next court appearance.
Turnstile released a statement about the incident, saying: “Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community.”
“Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further,” the statement said.
“We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery.”
A man who answered the phone at the law firm representing Ebert said they would be making no comment at this time.
