Lindsey Vonn’s return to the Olympic stage took an unexpected turn after a dramatic crash left the skiing legend hospitalized in Italy.
Vonn’s sister Karin Kidlow, who was in Italy to cheer her on, was able to be at her bedside at the Treviso hospital where she underwent leg surgery. As it turned out, Kidlow didn’t seem bothered to be missing out on the Olympic action and highlighted what she called the “silver lining” of Vonn’s situation in an Instagram reel.
“Delete your dating apps and just go to an Italian emergency room,” she joked in the post, which featured clips of male doctors and nurses over Natalie Cole’s song “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love).”
Apparently, the staff at the Ca’ Foncello hospital brought more than just medical expertise to the emergency room.
The post quickly went viral, offering a moment of comic relief amid the seriousness of the injury. Fans chimed in with supportive messages and plenty of jokes about suddenly feeling the need to visit an Italian ER themselves.
All jokes aside, Kidlow used her caption to thank the medical staff, writing, “I said there would be a silver lining… 😂 In all seriousness, shout‑out to all the truly kind and caring doctors and nurses who helped Lindsey.”
Lindsey Vonn is on the mend following her terrifying crash during the women’s downhill final at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics.
Despite the setback, Vonn has remained characteristically resilient. She shared brief updates assuring supporters that she’s focused on healing and determined to get back on her feet now that she’s back in the United States.
After arriving home earlier this week, she also shared a heartbreaking personal update on social media, announcing that her dog had recently passed away.
As she continues her recovery, Vonn has thanked fans for their support during what she described as an especially challenging stretch. Additional updates on her condition are expected as she moves forward with her recovery.
