Kendall Jenner admit she doesn’t know much about football, so she called someone who does.
Before making her pick for which team will win the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks while recently appearing on NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Jenner FaceTimed someone who has won the big game more than any other player in NFL history: Tom Brady.
“Can I phone a friend?” the model and star of “The Kardashians” asked Fallon. “I brought my phone.”
That friend turned out to be Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the Patriots and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“Dude, that’s Tom Brady!” Fallon said as Jenner showed her phone screen to the crowd. “Come on, what is going on?”
“So, basically I am trying to figure out who I want to go for for the Super Bowl, and I am an information person,” said Jenner, who was on the show to promote her upcoming Super Bowl commercial for Fanatics Sportsbook. “I feel like I need all the information I can get to make an educated decision. And I was thinking you’re the perfect person to ask for that information.”
“I hope I am,” Brady said.
“Tom, give us some scoop, who’s gonna win?” Fallon asked.
“Wait a minute, we’ve got two weeks to prepare for this,” Brady said. “Who’s gonna win? I don’t know.
“Look I think this Seattle defense, they’re like all time,” he continued. They can get pressure with four. It lets them drop seven guys into coverage. They can cover all day long. Six different guys did over 20 miles per hour at some point during the year. And you guys know Nick Emmanwori, right, Kendall?
“Of course. Of course. Yeah,” Jenner replied sarcastically.
“He played a huge part in the Seahawks ending up number one overall defensive DVOA. You guys track DVOA, right?” Brady asked of an NFL advanced analytic.
“Yes. Yes,” Jenner said.
“In New England, it’s all about what a story,” Brady said. “Mike Vrabel – you guys ever partied with Vrabes, Kendall?”
“All the time,” she answered. “Rave. Raves.”
“Yeah, great dude,” Brady said. “Anyway, they led the league with an 8.9 yards per attempt. I’ve always said its one of the most efficient ways to identify the league’s offensive scheme.”
“Understood. Understood,” Jenner said. “I feel like this is really, really, really helpful. Um, I am going to process all this information, but I really appreciate the phone call. Thank you for answering.”
Jenner then hung up on Brady, and was asked by Fallon if she got all that.
“No,” she said before making her pick.
“I feel like I’m gonna go with my gut here, right?” she said. “I feel like I am gonna go with the underdog, and I feel I’m gonna go Patriots.”
Brady later reshared the segment on his Instagram story.
“What?? Nobody has time for an advanced DVOA breakdown these days???” he wrote. “(I kept talking for a good 30 seconds before I realized they hung up on me)” Brady added.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft also responded with a video on the team’s social media accounts.
“Kendall, I just heard you put your money on us to win this big game,” he said. “And you know what? I don’t believe that thing about the ‘Kardashian curse’. We’ve been underdogs plenty of times, and we’ve done OK. Let’s do it together.”
Jenner partnered with Fanatics Sportsbook for the “Bet on Kendall” campaign – the first production from the recently launched Fanatics Studios. The 30-second ad centers around the theory of the “Kardashian Kurse” – while hinting at the NBA players Jenner has previously dated.
“So, essentially the internet has created this narrative about the ‘Kardashian Kurse,’ which is the idea that if an athlete dates me or one of my sisters that they are then cursed, which, please,” Jenner said. “But I got a commercial out of it.”
Jenner said she’d be placing a bet on the Super Bowl, with either her winnings or Fanatics’ winnings going to charity.
She could have also asked another former Patriot who has plenty of Super Bowl experience for advice on the game, with Rob Gronkowski appearing on the same episode of “The Tonight Show.”
Fallon then pointed out that Gronk had incorrectly predicted the last three Super Bowl winners.
“Do you want to FaceTime Tom Brady?” Fallon asked him.
“I would, but I know he wouldn’t answer,” Gronkowski said. “I’m not a supermodel…I’m gonna break the trend of being wrong, and I’m going with the New England Patriots. I will be right this time.”
Rob Gronkowski chats with Jimmy Fallon about retiring as a New England Patriot, which team he thinks will win the Super Bowl and weighs on the Bill Belicheck’s Hall of Fame snub.
