Craig Robinson reveals his weight loss 'cheat code'

We’re seeing a lot less of Craig Robinson these days, and that’s fine by him.

Robinson, who played Darryl on “The Office,” and who now stars as part of a rotating cast in the Broadway comedy “All Out,” has lost weight and worked on improving his health in recent years.

Robinson stopped by “TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle” on Jan. 22, during which Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones marveled at his appearance.

“First things first, you look absolutely amazing. You look great,” Sheinelle said. She then noted that he has been on a “health journey” and asked what he’s done.

“Working out, intermittent fasting. It’s like the cheat code,” he said. “And I stopped drinking alcohol.”

When Sheinelle asked if he’s given up drinking “forever and ever,” Robinson wouldn’t commit.

“We’ll see what happens,” he said, before adding he hasn’t had a drink in two and a half years.

“That’s incredible,” Jenna said.

Robinson noted one moment that led to his new focus on his health.

“The scale,” he said, drawing laughs. “I went to the doctor. I didn’t weigh myself a lot. And, so, you know, I figured I was at a certain weight, and I was, like, 30-something pounds over that … After the shock and depression, I said, ‘Let me get to it.’”

“Well, you look good,” Sheinelle said.

In the years since this revelation, Robinson has stuck to his health commitment.

“I lost a bunch of weight, I lost about 50 pounds,” he told Harry Connick Jr. on his talk show in 2017, according to People.

“I haven’t been drinking,” he continued. “Since January, I just put down the alcohol, I was going to detox. I had heard, I don’t know how true it is, but I heard you can regenerate your liver in six months. I was like, ‘let me see if I can go six months,’ and I just haven’t gone back.”

Robinson said he made other lifestyle changes, too.

“(I’m) working out and I’ve been trying this vegan lifestyle too. It’s amazing,” he said. “There are so many great vegan restaurants and dishes. It’s much easier than I thought it would be.”
