Barton G sells Miami Beach mansion for $29M after price cut

Restaurateur Barton G. Weiss, also known as Barton G., sold his waterfront Miami Beach mansion for $29.3 million.

That marks a $10.2 million price cut from the $39.5 million he listed it for in March. Records show Weiss sold the house at 1535 West 27th Street on Sunset Island II to an LLC managed by David Moradi, the CEO of accessibility software firm AudioEye.

Moradi is also the founder of Sero Capital, a Miami-based private investment firm.

Jill and Danny Hertzberg with the Jills Zeder Group at Coldwell Banker Realty had the listing, and Marko Gojanovic and Reid Heidenry with One Sotheby’s International Realty brought the buyer.

Weiss is best known for his Barton G. restaurants in Miami and Los Angeles. He was formerly a professional ice skater, costume designer and events producer.

He bought the Sunset Islands II property for $1 million in 1994 and built the 12,200-square-foot main house in 2009, according to property records. It has nine bedrooms, nine bathrooms, one half-bathroom, a pool, a guest house, 100 feet of waterfront and a dock, records and the listing show.

He listed it for $39.5 million in March and dropped the price to $34.5 million in April, according to Zillow. It went pending in July. Luxury deals in the region increasingly close with big cuts as a cooler market reins in price growth at the upper end of sales.

The Sunset Islands have proven a significant draw for Miami Beach’s luxury buyers in recent months.

A spec home on the island asking $18 million went pending last week, and architect Chad Oppenheim found a buyer for his waterfront mansion asking $27 million in November. In October, investor Edmond Harbour bought his neighbor’s teardown for $34 million, bringing his total spend on the islands to $60.5 million.
