Chris Evans is once again ready to assemble alongside the Avengers.
Over five years after the “Captain America” star relinquished his shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, his appearance in the latest “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer confirms he will reprise his Steve Rogers role in the upcoming Marvel film.
“Steve Rogers will return,” the trailer, released Dec. 23, writes in a title card. “In Avengers: Doomsday. December 18, 2026.”
In the beginning of the trailer, Rogers is seen driving down a rural road on a motorcycle, before approaching a house. Flashes of Rogers sporting a wedding band and cradling a baby share insight into the life he has been living since reuniting with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) and deciding to remain in the mid-20th century in “Avengers: Endgame.”
Later, Rogers is seen opening an old crate, before taking out his and admiring his Captain America suit foreshadowing what is to come in the upcoming franchise installment.

For ardent fans of Evans’ Captain America, his return is an exciting surprise. After all, the 44-year-old — who welcomed a baby girl with wife Alba Baptista in October — previously said it would take a lot for him to step back into the Marvel franchise.
“I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,” he told GQ in 2023. “But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened. And I wouldn’t want the black eye if it felt like a cash grab or if it didn’t live up to expectations or if it just felt like it wasn’t connected to that original thing. So, no time soon.”
What’s more, Evans faked fans out earlier this year, when he claimed he was “sad” to be missing the fun that came along with filming the upcoming Marvel movie alongside Anthony, Sebastian Stan, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and more.
“It’s sad to not be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible,” he told ScreenRant in June, “and I’m sure it’s going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren’t invited to the party.”
