1 deputy killed, 2 others wounded in Vero Beach eviction shooting, Florida officials say



Several Indian River County deputies were involved in a fatal shooting Friday morning in Vero Beach, according to information from Florida officials and reports by CBS affiliate WPEC.

The shooting allegedly took place near 1100 Governors Way in Vero Beach, located roughly 140 miles north of Miami.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said he had just been informed of the deputy-involved shooting as he began a news conference earlier in the morning, according to WPEC. He did not provide additional details at the time.

According to Gov. Ron DeSantis, three deputies were shot. The mayor of Vero Beach, John E. Cotugno, told WPEC that one deputy is confirmed dead after a shooting during an eviction at a gated community.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said Sheriff Eric Flowers will release more information to the media at 12 p.m.
