A one-year-old drowned in a bathtub inside a North Miami Beach home. Family friends tell CBS News Miami the child was a little girl whose birthday is on Wednesday.
North Miami Beach Police said the child was left unattended in the bathtub for a short time Monday evening at a home along Northeast 7th Court and 169th Street before being found unresponsive.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived and began CPR, managing to get a faint pulse before rushing the girl to Jackson North Medical Center, where she later died.
Neighbor Francine, who lives nearby, told CBS News Miami, “We’re devastated that a baby died,” she said. “A couple of minutes—that’s too long to leave a baby unattended.”
Friends of the family, who are observing a Jewish holiday, said the girl was the youngest of three children. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
At this time, it’s unclear whether the parents will face any charges.
