Victoria Beckham’s parents, Anthony and Jackie Adams, appear in the new three-part Netflix series about her life, shedding light on her upbringing and how it influenced her path to becoming a multi-hyphenate talent.
The former Spice Girl’s childhood was memorably addressed in the docuseries about her husband, “Beckham,” when she said she grew up “working class.”
Overhearing her interview, David Beckham poked his head in and said, “Be honest.” He then prompted Victoria Beckham to share that her father drove her to school in a Rolls Royce. The unscripted moment went viral, becoming a major talking point from the 2023 documentary.
Anthony and Jackie Adams, as well as Victoria Beckham, share more of the actual story in “Victoria Beckham.” The future celebrity was raised in Goffs Oak, Hertfordshire with two siblings, sister Louise and brother Christian.
“My parents started with nothing,” Victoria Beckham said. She said her parents re-mortgaged their house to send her to theater high school.
Eventually, Anthony Adams started a successful business. “My parents still live in the house that I grew up in,” she said in the docuseries. “When they bought that house, it was a shell. My dad built it himself.”

Victoria Beckham said her love for fashion came from watching her mom get ready in the morning.
“I used to love watching my mum get dressed up. You know, she really cared and made the best of herself,” Victoria Beckham said in the documentary.
Victoria Beckham also said her mom thought dressing well could open doors that would be otherwise closed.
“I remember my mum saying to me, ‘If you dress up to get on the airplane, you know, if there’s any chance to be upgraded, they’re always going to look at who looks the best,’” Victoria Beckham recalled — then added as an aside, “I mean, the truth is, there is no first class on budget airlines.”
In a 2017 interview with British Vogue, Victoria Beckham remembered the fashion from dinner parties at her house.
“We weren’t allowed to attend so we’d sit on the balcony and watch. Mum had blonde hair and big shoulder pads, there was a lot of velvet, nipped-in waists and 15-denier tights,” she said. “She was properly dressed for dinner.”
Anthony Adams
According to British Vogue, Anthony Adams is an entrepreneur who “made a killing” during the 1980s tech boom. In Victoria Beckham’s Netflix docuseries, he said he earned his fortune from electrical wholesaling.
“Tony’s always had an amazing work ethic,” his wife said in the show.
“I was very strict to myself,” he added.
Victoria Beckham then elaborated on how she would help out her dad at home.
“He used to sit me, my brother and sister in like a little production line. We would build things, plugs and electrical things. Dad always worked so, so hard and he expected me to do the same,” she said.

Victoria Beckham also said her dad instilled in her the belief that she could do anything.
“My family brought me up telling me I could achieve absolutely anything. Whenever I said I can’t do it, my dad, he just wouldn’t hear it. He’d say, ‘What do you mean you can’t do it? Why? Why?’ And I do that to my own children as well,” she said.
Another trick she learned from her parents that she continued with her four kids? Not hanging up posters.
“My dad worked really hard to have the money for us to have a nice house, so Mum would not let us stick posters up and I wouldn’t let my kids stick posters up. If they must have a football shirt, then we will get it framed and put in on the wall nicely,” she said.
