Emma Watson reveals meaning behind diamond ring amid engagement rumors

Emma Watson solemnly swears it’s not an engagement ring.

When the “Harry Potter” alum attended Paris Fashion Week Oct. 6, she turned heads in a chic tan suede jacket over a light pink metallic mini dress. However, one of her accessories — a diamond ring on that finger — ended up stealing the spotlight.

Despite causing a stir online that she could be engaged — she was most recently linked to her fellow Oxford classmate Kieran Brown in July 2024 — Watson had recently detailed how the ring was a gift from her friends to celebrate their bond and a season of intense personal growth.

“Having gone through this odyssey, which has been the last seven years,” the 35-year-old told Jay Shetty on the Sept. 24 episode of his On Purpose podcast, “I was like, OK, I feel like I’ve got to a place — and this will continue forever — where I want to celebrate where I ended up after I kind of left land.”

It came from, as she noted, “a day of celebrating with my friends and chosen family.” Indeed, the ring, made of 22 diamond petals, was gifted by 22 of her friends, with each of them buying one petal.

As Watson explained to Shetty, she has spent years processing her experience of being a world-famous child actor, which she couldn’t have done without her friends.

“I’ve never owned anything so valuable in my life because to me, it represents the life that I’ve built,” she shared, “which was the one that I really wanted, which was one that was made up of community and my roots and faith and trust.”

“And in some funny way, it signals to me that even though I have no outward signs of my success,” she continued, “save for this crazy one-woman play I’ve written — I don’t even have my degree yet — it signals to me that for me, I achieved what I wanted to achieve for myself.”

So, for her, the ring is so much more than a piece of jewelry.

“I love that every time I look down at my finger,” Watson, getting emotional, expressed, “I can see all of the faces of the people who bought it for me.”

Though the diamond ring was not an engagement ring, the “Beauty and the Beast” star addressed her future marriage mindset.

“I hope it happens to me,” she told Shetty. “But I don’t feel entitled to it. It will either be part of my purpose here and my destiny, or it won’t.”

Emma Watson has been temporarily banned from driving after she was caught speeding last year. The actress drove her Audi 38mph in a 30mph zone last July in Oxford, England, and already had nine points on her license, according to multiple reports including the BBC.
