Ron Livingston recreates iconic 'Office Space' printer-smashing scene in HP ad

Ron Livingston is over his printer problems.

The actor, who famously smashed a printer with a baseball bat in 1999’s “Office Space,” has come around on the electronic device as part of a new ad for HP.

The ad opens with two office workers taking out their frustrations on a printer in an open field with the Geto Boys’ “Still” playing in the background.

Livingston cuts them off, saying “You didn’t get the memo?” before promoting HP’s All-In Plan. He then takes a wood bat from one of the workers and walks away.

“I thought it was a clever idea,” Livingston said. “You take one of the most famously frustrating scenes in pop culture and make it about progress. It was a lot of fun to shoot. And beyond all the humor at the printer’s expense — it’s a nod to the idea that you don’t always have to beat your head against the same wall over and over again. Sometimes there’s just a better way.”

Livingston played Peter Gibbons — a man desperate to escape his job — in the Mike Judge-helmed office comedy.

Teaming up with actors David Herman (Michael Bolton) and Ajay Naidu (Samir Nagheenanajar), Livingston helped create a movie moment that endures through gifs and memes to this day.
