McDonald's announces return of Boo Buckets. See the release date and new designs

McDonald’s popular Boo Buckets are making their annual return, but this time with two new faces.

The world’s largest hamburger chain, based in Chicago, announced the Happy Meal Boo Buckets will make their highly anticipated,” haunting” return on Oct. 21.

“Just in time for spooky szn,” the company wrote in a release.

This year’s lineup will feature the classic faces of a ghost, pumpkin and goblin, but two new additions – Cat and Zombie – will also join the crew.

The buckets will only be available while supplies last.

The chain acknowledged copycat buckets being released around this time of year, saying “imitation is the most BOO-tiful form of flattery,” but noting “there’s only one OG Halloween bucket.”

First introduced in 1986, the trick-or-treat pails, known as “Boo Buckets,” were a Happy Meal staple of the spooky season for several years before they “vanished for a while.” Following a prolonged absence, three iconic, throwback buckets returned for 2022. They also returned in 2023, with the same vintage designs — Monster, Skeleton, Mummy — plus a purple Vampire bucket, a nod to the “OG purple Boo Bucket.”

The Boo Buckets are the latest blast of nostalgia being released by the fast food chain.

On Sept. 29, McDonald’s announced its Monopoly game is returning to the U.S. after a 10-year hiatus. Starting Oct. 6 for a limited time, customers across the country can rediscover the “thrill of the peel” with new digital game pieces in addition to the classic ones.
