Trader Joe’s is restocking its viral mini tote bags — and they’re halloween-themed

The viral Trader Joe’s mini tote bags are being restocked for Halloween with a spooktacular twist.

A spokesperson for Trader Joe’s confirmed to TODAY.com the popular canvas bags are returning for the Halloween season, and shoppers can expect to see them in stores on Oct. 8.

The bags will be on sale for $2.99 each and come in four different Halloween-themed colors: solid black, solid orange, solid purple and a multicolor option including black, orange, green and purple.

Customers with questions about product availability can ask crew members at their local store, the spokesperson said.

The latest iteration of the mini canvas totes comes after Trader Joe’s released a pastel line of bags in honor of the spring season earlier this year.

The grocery chain launched the bags in pastel pink, pastel blue, pastel green and pastel purple in April, following the viral craze over the original shades released in 2024.

Shoppers and resellers alike went wild when Trader Joe’s released the original canvas mini totes in March 2024, leading to some of the bags going for hundreds of dollars on resale websites.

At the time of this writing, multiple eBay sellers had sets of four of the not-yet-released Halloween-themed mini totes listed for “presale” for just under $60.

The original ones came in red, yellow, green and navy blue, and rapidly sold out upon their release, leading the company to later restock them again in September 2024.

This summer, Trader Joe’s also released a new mini version of one of its bags: the mini insulated cooler bag. The brand launched them for $3.99 in June, then restocked them in July.

However, not all grocery chains are leaning into the mini concept: Aldi launched its Big Bag, an aquarium-sized reusable tote, last month, and it sold out in less than 15 minutes.

“Each bag is a metaphor for massive savings… because bigger savings mean bigger hauls, and bigger hauls mean you need a bigger bag,” Aldi said in a Sept. 9 news release. “Those viral mini totes? Cute, but they could never.”

A representative for Aldi told TODAY.com the company was aware of how much its customers loved the Big Bag. On the topic of a restock, the Aldi rep said, “Never say never.”
