It looks like Nicole Kidman hoped she and Keith Urban could get back to being the perfect couple.
Shortly after confirming the Oscar winner and country singer broke up following 20 years together, E! News learned that the pair’s decision to separate was one-sided.
Indeed, E! learned that Kidman did not want to part ways with Urban and has been trying to save the marriage since they opted to live apart in the beginning of the summer.
And those aren’t the only details that have been revealed about the duo’s breakup. E! also learned that, amid their separation, Kidman has been taking care of their daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, in their shared Nashville home, while Urban resides in a separate residence in the same city. He’s currently on tour and will next perform in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 2.
E! reached out to reps of Kidman and Urban for comment.
Three months before news of their breakup was made public, Kidman, 58, celebrated 19 years of marriage with Urban, 57, whom she tied the knot with in 2006 following one year of dating.
Alongside a photo of her cozied up with the “Somebody Like You” singer with his guitar on his lap, she captioned a June 25 Instagram post, “Happy Anniversary Baby.”
One month later, E! learned that Kidman — who is also mom to kids Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, with ex-husband Tom Cruise — had put in an application to become a resident of Portugal but had not listed Urban on the form.
However, a source with knowledge of the situation told E! that his absence from the application was due to scheduling conflicts.
“Keith was unable to be in Portugal for this appointment as he is currently on tour in the U.S.,” the source said at the time, “and it is mandatory for applicants to be physically present in order to apply for the visa. He is scheduled to submit his application at a later date that works with his tour schedule.”
And while Urban and Kidman have yet to speak publicly on why they called it quits, they have previously provided insight into why they fell in love with each other when they met in 2005.
As Urban put it during a 2020 appearance on Dax Shephard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, “She’s the one that I was searching for my whole life.”
For Kidman’s part, she knew she wanted to walk down the aisle with the musician after he surprised her with flowers for her 38th birthday a few months into dating.
She told People in 2019, “I believed by that point he was the love of my life.”
