Two people were rushed to a hospital and 17 others were treated at the scene following a possible chemical spill in Doral Tuesday afternoon, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The incident happened in the area of NW 19th Street and 102nd Avenue. Officials said the two hospitalized patients were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
What began as a medical call was later updated to a hazardous situation involving a possible chemical spill.
Firefighters conducted triage for patients while also working to locate and contain the source of the leak.
Because of the number of people affected, the incident was upgraded to a Level 2 mass casualty event.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said 17 patients were ultimately treated, all with non-life-threatening injuries.
