One actor was allegedly forced to say “adieu” to “Emily in Paris.”
Rupert Everett — who had a small role as interior designer Giorgio Barbieri in the finale of season four — recently claimed he was fired from the Netflix show, sharing how deeply he was impacted by the decision.
“I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, ‘Next year we’ll speak,’” he told Vanity Fair Italia in an interview published July 29. “I waited for them to call me — but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me.”
He added, “Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end. When they write the screenplay, they think they want you—but then things change, and they lose your character. I don’t know why.”
But despite his grasp of the industry, Everett said the decision still took its toll. “For me, it was a tragedy,” the 66-year-old said. “I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn’t get over it.”
E! News has reached out to Netflix for comment but has not yet heard back.

Everett’s confirmation that he won’t be returning for season five of the hit Netflix show — which began filming in May — comes on the heels of a separate cast shakeup: Camille Razat, who played a character by the same name across all four installments of the show, shared she will be stepping away from the series “after an incredible journey.”
The stars of hit Netflix series “Emily In Paris” Lily Collins, Ashley Park and Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu reflect on their strong female characters and the real-life friendships they’ve formed over the past four seasons during an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show.”
“It has been a truly wonderful experience, one filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable memories,” she added in her April Instagram post, expressing her gratitude to Netflix, Paramount, and “Emily in Paris” creator Darren Star. “For their trust and for giving me the opportunity to bring Camille to life, and leaving the door open for her return, as she will always be a part of Emily In Paris world.”
The 31-year-old added, “This character has meant a lot to me, and I feel that her storyline has naturally come to an end. It felt like the right moment to explore new horizons.”
Among those new opportunities is focusing on her production company Tazar, which Razat confirmed was embarking on its first feature film.
Following the announcement, many of Razat’s costars shared their support, including Lily Collins, proving the pair’s offscreen love despite their tumultuous onscreen relationship.
“Love you sister,” Collins wrote in the comments section. “It’s been a wild ride and an absolute pleasure. You’re a rockstar. So proud of you.”
Ashley Park, meanwhile, added, “Love you so much, always proud of you.”
