A piece of cinematic history is back home in Texas. The Shrine of Texas Liberty, the Alamo, has acquired an original, screen-used stunt bike from the 1985 classic film “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” and will keep it on permanent display.
Pee-wee’s customized Schwinn DX Cruiser won’t be kept in the basement, despite a new museum being built at the Alamo having one. Instead, the bicycle will first be on display at the Ralston Family Collections Center before being moved to its permanent home in the Mays Family Legacy Gallery on the new museum’s second floor.
The Alamo’s new visitor center and museum is expected to open in the fall of 2027. Once installed in the Mays Family Legacy Gallery, the bicycle will sit “alongside film clips, music, toys, and other memorabilia that have introduced the Alamo to new generations in unexpected and memorable ways.”

Alamo Trust The Alamo has acquired a screen-used stunt bike from the 1985 film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure and will include it in its personal collection of artifacts.
“We are thrilled to add this beloved piece of film history to our collection,” said Dr. Kate Rogers, executive director of the Alamo Trust, Inc.
“The Alamo holds a special place in the hearts of people everywhere, and Pee-wee’s Big Adventure helped to introduce a new generation to the historic site. This artifact perfectly illustrates how the Alamo lives on in pop culture, and soon, visitors to Texas’s top tourist destination will be able to see it up close in our new world-class museum.”
Paul Reubens’s classic film turns 40 this summer, and to celebrate the anniversary and the acquisition, the Alamo will host a free public screening of the movie in Plaza de Valero. Fans will be able to see the bike on display at that time. Details about the screening will be released after they’re finalized.
The Alamo’s new visitor center and museum will feature eight chronological galleries telling the mission’s 300-year story, from its indigenous and Spanish beginnings to the 1836 battle and beyond.
