Surfside victims’ attorney buys his Venetian Islands neighbor’s house for $16M

Judd Rosen, one of the lead attorneys who represented victims of the Surfside condo collapse, bought his Miami Beach neighbor’s waterfront home for $15.5 million.

Records show the seller is Barbara Becker, the ex-wife of tennis great Boris Becker. She sold the house at 111 East Di Lido Drive in the Venetian Islands to Rosen, who also owns the house next door at 115 East Di Lido Drive, according to property records.

Lourdes Alatriste with Douglas Elliman represented both the buyer and seller in the deal.

Rosen is a partner at Goldberg & Rosen, a Miami law firm. In the wake of the deadly Champlain Towers South collapse in 2021, he worked as co-lead counsel to the families of victims to secure $517.5 million of the total $1.2 billion settlement fund, his firm’s website shows. The companies that were sued ultimately did not admit to any wrongdoing in the collapse, but Rosen said the payout tells its own story.

“A billion dollars doesn’t get paid without some sense of accountability for this loss,” he told the New York Times in 2022.

He bought the quarter-acre waterfront property at 115 East Di Lido Drive on Di Lido Island for $3.3 million in 2013, according to property records. He built the 4,900-square-foot home in 2020, records show. It has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, a pool and a dock.

Becker bought the adjacent house at 111 East Di Lido Drive for $2.2 million in 2003, according to property records. Built on half an acre in 1933, the 4,400-square-foot home has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, one half-bathroom, a pool and a dock, records show.

Becker was married to Boris Becker at the height of his tennis career, from 1993 to 2001. When their divorce was finalized that year, Barbara Becker received $14.4 million, their Fisher Island condo and custody of their children, the Telegraph reported at the time.

She listed the Di Lido Drive house for $23 million in February, Zillow shows.

It marks the latest pricey sale on Miami Beach’s Venetian Islands. Earlier this month, a tech couple sold their home for a record $46 million. Also this month, developers Ricardo Halfen and Matthew Rosenblatt bought a waterfront lot for $15.8 million, where they are planning a $62 million spec estate.
