The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board found clarity and balance with Alo Yoga’s plans for a new store and private health club on a dead retail corner at Collins Avenue and Lincoln Road.
At a Tuesday hearing, the board voted 5-0 to approve Beverly Hills-based Alo Yoga’s revamping of a shuttered Walgreens pharmacy on the ground-floor of the Decoplage condominium at 100 Lincoln Road.
“The design as it stands is elegant,” board chairman John Stuary said during the meeting. “It will be a huge addition to this corner.”
The 13,480-square-foot space, consisting of four commercial units, has remained empty for nearly a decade. Walgreens vacated the property in 2016, roughly two years after selling it. In 2014, New York-based Nightingale Group paid $28 million for the commercial units, but lost them in 2023 as a result of a final foreclosure judgment, court records show.
In a 2021 complaint, lender LoanCore Capital Credit Real Estate Investment Trust alleged Nightingale defaulted on a $30.6 million mortgage.
Last year, LoanCore sold the commercial units to an entity that traces to Alo Yoga co-founders Danny Harris and Marco DeGeorge, who also own Bella + Canvas, a t-shirt manufacturing and wholesale company. Harris and DeGeorge paid $17.3 million for the units. Alo Yoga is a popular activewear clothing line worn by A-list celebs like Taylor Swift and Kendall Jenner.
Alo Yoga has two other retail spaces in Los Angeles and New York that are combined stores and health clubs, according to a letter of intent filed with the city. The facilities feature weight rooms, infrared saunas, cold plunges, cryotherapy chambers and cafes with snack bars.
Completed in 1965, the Decoplage condominium is not a historic building, but the property is within Miami Beach’s Art Deco Historic District, requiring approval from the historic preservation board. Harris and DeGeorge also invested in the Miami Design District, buying a single-story retail building in 2023 for $22 million. The storefront at 101 Northeast 40th Street is leased to Alo Yoga.
