A police investigation was underway after someone opened fire on a car near a gas station in Miami Gardens early Tuesday morning.

According to police, officers responded just after 3 a.m. to reports of a car fire at the intersection of NW 199th Street and NW 37th Avenue. When they arrived, they found an unoccupied vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire.

Upon closer inspection, officers discovered multiple shell casings near the vehicle and bullet holes on both sides of it.

So far, police said the car’s driver has not come forward, and no injuries have been reported.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said a bullet may have struck a tire during the shooting, potentially sparking the fire.

Investigators are now working to determine what led to the gunfire.
