The price of YouTube Premium and YouTube Music subscriptions has gone up.
The online video platform announced higher subscription prices for the two services on Friday. It marks the first time it has raised costs for YouTube Premium users in three years.
Individual YouTube Premium plans are going from $13.99 to $15.99 per month, while family plans are jumping from $22.99 to $26.99 per month and student plans are jumping from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.
YouTube Music plans will have slightly smaller increases. Individual plans are going from $10.99 to $11.99 per month, while family plans are increasing from $16.99 to $18.99 per month.
“We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the U.S. for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” a spokesperson said, via Business Insider.
YouTube Premium subscribers get several features that regular YouTube users do not, including ad-free viewing, background listening, offline video downloads and full access to YouTube Music.
Current subscribers can expect to receive an email from YouTube in the next 30 days informing them of the new subscription prices.
YouTube is just the most recent platform to be hit by “streamflation.” Netflix raised prices last month, while Paramount+, Crunchyroll and Hulu announced similar changes earlier this year.
